Why Choose the 2024 Ford Mustang Mach-E Over the Subaru Solterra?

So you’re shopping for a Ev (electric vehicle) SUV. The great news is that there are actually some contenders out there that might meet your needs. Since Ford graciously gifted the world the Mustang Mach-E, the electrified and larger cousin of the classic Ford Mustang, drivers who need extra passenger and cargo space and want to plug in rather than fill up but also want the thrill of a Mustang can have it all. Then, there’s the Subaru Solterra. This is Subaru’s competitor to the Mustang Mach-E; however, as your premier Ford dealer near Claremont, the team at Faith’s Ford is confident that the Mach-E is the standout model.

Ford has done with the Mustang Mach-E what it always does: prove that delivering inspired performance, stunning design, and innovative technology can come with an affordable price tag. In fact, the starting MSRP for the 2024 Mustang Mach-E is about $5,000 less than that of the 2024 Subaru Solterra.[a] So, what does the Solterra have to offer that justifies that price difference? When you take a close look at both models, you’ll find some significant differences that make the Mach-E stand out. Ultimately, it’s clear that the Mustang Mach-E offers far more bang for your buck, along with that iconic Mustang nameplate. The Mach-E Offers More Battery Range

When you drive a traditional gas-engine vehicle, you want to know how many miles you can drive before you have to stop at a gas pump. You can’t have a vehicle that requires constant refueling and interferes with your travels. If you’re looking at an EV, you want to look at electric range—that’s how many miles you can drive without having to plug in. This number matters even more in electric vehicles because public charging stations are few and far between in Claremont. You want to ensure the EV you choose will provide you with an extensive range, ensuring that you get a return on your investment.

Your vehicle will come with a home charging station, of course, but what happens when you’re out and about and realize that your battery is almost dead? If you’re in town, you might just have to wait in the long line at the charging station. If you’re up the I-91, far from home, you have to hope you find a charging station before your battery dies. This is important to bring up because these concerns will be minimized in the Ford Mustang Mach-E compared to the Subaru Solterra. Why? Because the Mustang Mach-E has an electric range of up to 320 miles, while the Subaru Solterra’s electric range tops out at a disappointing 227 miles. So you can drive nearly 100 extra miles in the Mustang Mach-E compared to the Solterra before you have to plug in.

What does an extra 100 miles look like? It means you can drive to Concord and back (roughly 50 miles away) three times in the Mustang Mach-E, but only two times in the Subaru Solterra, before you have to plug in. It means you can drive to Durham to visit your friend or child at the University of New Hampshire and still have over 100 miles left before you need to plug in (your battery would be pretty low after that drive in the Solterra). If it’s less than 320 miles round trip, you can go in the Mustang Mach-E on just one charge.

Ford’s Superior BlueCruise Hands-Free Driving System

The Mustang Mach-E has been gifted with Ford’s hands-free driving system, BlueCruise. It can maintain your desired speed, keep a safe distance between you and the vehicle in front of you, maintain your lane, and even come to a stop and resume driving in stop-and-go traffic. Plus, it has Speed Sign Recognition to alert you of posted speed signs and a driver monitor that will let you know if you need to refocus on the road.

The Subaru Solterra also has a Hands-Free Driving system. It can also maintain the vehicle’s lane, slow down and speed up for stop-and-go traffic and change lanes. However, it only works when you’re driving at speeds of 25 miles per hour or less. So, while the Mustang Mach-E allows for hands-free driving on freeways and highways, the Subaru Solterra only allows for hands-free driving within town and on city and suburban streets.

Hands-free driving systems are popular for road trippers because lengthy journeys are when people typically want the option to take a break from driving. So not being able to use hands-free driving on a freeway in the Solterra is very limiting. You can use BlueCruise driving at speeds as high as 85 miles per hour, so it’s more than ready for freeway driving and trips up the New Hampshire Route 120. BlueCruise has been praised by car experts and enthusiasts as the best hands-free driving system currently on the market and you can find it in several Ford models, including the Mustang Mach-E.

More Horsepower and Torque Under the Hood of the Mach-E

If you’re shopping for either of these vehicles because you want to feel the roar of an engine, you want amazing acceleration and you want to drive a vehicle that takes your breath away with its power, you simply have to go with the Ford Mustang Mach-E. It sees a maximum horsepower of an earth-shattering 480 and torque of up to 700 lb-ft when properly equipped. Your demands for acceleration will be met swiftly, and you’ll very much see how the Mustang Mach-E is related to the Mustang performance vehicle. The Subaru Solterra’s horsepower tops out at 215 hp, and its torque only goes up to 249 lb-ft. It’s simply a different breed of vehicle. In the performance space, it doesn’t compare to the Mustang Mach-E.
